Dan H. Stewart is a fourth-generation Nevadan with roots that run deep in his state and in his community. He brings years of education and work experience to the Gardner Company, where he oversees all operations of Gardner in Nevada, particularly the UNLV Tech Park.

Dan graduated from Western High School and entered Brigham Young University in 1971. After a year, he served a two-year mission for his church in Korea and then returned to BYU. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1978, and then proceeded to Stanford, graduating in 1979 with a Master of Science in Construction Engineering and Management. Dan later completed Harvard University’s exclusive Executive Education Advanced Management Development Program.

In 1979, Dan, his wife, Mary and their small family moved to Green Valley in Henderson as one of the first families in the new master-planned community. He worked for the family-owned construction company, Nevada Rock & Sand Company and worked his way through the ranks to eventually run the heavy-construction company. In 1988 Dan left that business to run Industrial Construction and Bonanza Materials, both located in Henderson.

In 1994 Dan became president and CEO of Basic Management Inc., the parent and holding company of Basic Water Company, Basic Power Company, Basic Remediation Company, Basic Environmental Company and the LandWell Company. As president, Dan oversaw daily operations for each of these companies, all of which were critical to growth in Henderson, with regard to land development, water delivery, power distribution and switching, and remediation of environmentally challenged property.

After a decade with the LandWell Company and BMI, Dan went to work for American Nevada Corporation in 2004 where he was responsible for identifying, evaluating and consummating transactions to expand the American Nevada Corporation commercial portfolio, as well as managing the conversion and sale of the condominiums in The District in Green Valley.

In 2005 Dan went into business for himself and continues to be involved in various companies he owns or is a partial owner, including Valley Construction Company (VCC) and Stewart-Nevada Enterprises.

VCC is a general engineering and building contractor established by Dan in the 1990s. It has an unlimited license with the State of Nevada Contractor’s Board. From 2007 to 2010, VCC had offices in Reno and Henderson specializing in commercial construction which included projects such as the Jet Ranch at Carson City Airport, Raley’s grocery stores, school projects in California, a Maverick gas station, the LDS church, the Sikh Temple. In 2008, the Associated General Contractors in Reno awarded VCC for excellence in Sensitivity to Environment, History and Culture.

Stewart-Nevada Enterprises is family-owned company specializing in real estate, water development and farming in Nevada. Dan was instrumental in obtaining certification of more than 3,000 acre-feet of ground water in Hiko, Nevada, and has over the years been involved in many water-rights issues. He also oversees the farming operation on the family-owned ranch in Hiko.

Along with the UNLV Tech Park project, Dan is presently focusing his efforts on opportunities in southern Nevada and is consulting on various development projects. He is a key consultant on the politically-important Three Kids Mine remediation and development project, which consists of the cleanup of environmentally contaminated property, in-fill of enormous mining pits.

Dan is a registered professional engineer in Nevada with his license currently on inactive status, and he is a licensed real estate broker and property manager in Nevada. Dan has served as the vice chairman of the Planning Commission for the City of Henderson and was recently appointed to the Nevada State Commission on Ethics. He was a co-founder in 1998 of Valley Bank of Nevada which merged into Community Bank of Nevada, both publically traded companies, and he continued as a director. Dan served as a trustee on the St. Rose Hospital Foundation Board for 10 years and is currently a trustee and vice chairman of the Nevada State College Foundation. He has recently finished a three-year stint as district committee chairman of Henderson’s Eldorado District of the Boy Scouts of America.

In his spare time, Dan enjoys golf, working out, family, and church, and he hopes to resume flying as a pilot soon.
